New retail building proposed at Austin Landing

A new retail building is proposed at Austin Landing, with the giant Miami Township lifestyle center continuing to grow.

The proposal considered Tuesday night by Miami Township calls for a nearly 10,000-square-foot retail building to be added to the sprawling 1.5 million-square-foot mixed use center with retail, office, hospitality and apartments, now under the management of VisCap Development.

Cheryl Dillin, spokeswoman for VisCap, said the company didn't have any further details beyond those from the township meeting, including if any specific retailers have been confirmed as tenants.

The multi-tenant building would be built west of Kohl's, north of Innovation Drive and south of Landing Way.

The original proposal called for a 6,000-square-foot building before the developers amended the proposal. The retail project would also come with 24 new parking spaces.

Austin Landing's developers have had success attracting a strong lineup of retail chains, including new-to-market restaurants like Mike's Nashville Hot, Bar 145 and Firebirds Wood Fired Grill.

The proposal alludes to a restaurant as a likely candidate for at least 5,000 square feet of the retail building.

Current real estate trends point toward restaurants as the most likely candidate for newly constructed retail space, as brick-and-mortar clothing retailers lag.
